Kwinana Is Growing — So Why Isn’t Our Police Presence?
Kwinana’s population now exceeds 50,000 residents, yet our community safety arrangements remain stuck in the past.
There is a clear disconnect between what Kwinana Council says and what it actually does. The Council frequently claims to care for local residents, yet its track record tells a very different story. Rather than standing up for ratepayers, decisions consistently appear tailored to align with Premier Roger Cook’s State Government laws, state policy agendas, and future regional planning.
Time and again, genuine community feedback and survey results are ignored. Instead of advocating for what locals actually want, the Council and State Government push their own agenda—passing policies first and expecting residents to simply comply afterwards.
Nowhere is this policy gap clearer than in local Policing:
Expanding Administration, Limited Safety: Council routinely uses population growth to justify expanding its own administration and services. Yet when residents demand a 24-hour police station and stronger patrols, we are told Kwinana isn’t big enough.
Shifting the Burden to Ratepayers: Council promotes ratepayer-funded CCTV rebates and local security initiatives. While cameras may record evidence after a crime occurs, they do not deter offenders. Ratepayers shouldn’t be expected to fund their own security while persistent hooning, illegal dirt bikes, smashed car windows, and property damage disrupt our neighbourhoods most night.
A Refusal to Lobby Hard: Council cannot command WA Police, but it has a duty to advocate fiercely. Why isn’t Council publicly challenging the State Government, Police Minister Paul Papalia, and Premier Roger Cook (Member for Kwinana) for the police resources we urgently deserve?
Why is population growth good enough to justify expanding Council administration, but apparently not good enough to demand greater police resources?
Ratepayers deserve transparency.
Council has also supported local security measures, including providing rateHow many times has Council formally requested additional police coverage? What responses were received? Why is our elected Council so reluctant to challenge state decisions that leave our streets under-policed?
Security systems are no substitute for visible police on the beat.
True crime prevention requires real enforcement, steady police presence, and immediate consequences.

It is time for the Kwinana City Council to put its residents ahead of state political alignments.
