The “Hidden Cost” of Local Committees

The City of Kwinana often boasts that they are the only council in Western Australia to have created and endorsed a body like the Boola Maara Aboriginal Consultative Committee.

While the Council is quick to take the credit for being “first in WA,” they are much slower when it comes to showing us the receipts.

ALWMGroup has repeatedly requested a clear breakdown of:

  1. Meeting Costs: What are the sitting fees and administrative costs paid for by ratepayer dollars?
  2. Project Funding: Where is the itemized budget for their authorized projects?

Despite these official requests, the Council has failed to produce any specific costing figures. We believe that if the Council is going to “boast” about a committee to the rest of the state, they should be honest with the local families who are actually footing the bill.

Transparency shouldn’t be optional—especially when it’s your money.
